The Golden Globes: Live Report

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – 2017 PST: The Social Network is the big winner of the night, clinching the top award for best picture and scooping the most honours of the night - four (best picture, best screenplay, best director, best score). The thank-yous from the stage again acknowledged Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, whose life served as "a metaphor for communication and the way we relate to each other."
The riveting social networking drama trounced the night's most nominated film, British historical drama The King's Speech, which started the night with a leading seven nominations but scored only one with Colin Firth's much deserved best actor honour.
The Kids Are All Right won two Globes.
Inception, meanwhile, which was nominated for four, left the night empty-handed, as did 127 Hours and The Tourist, which were both nominated for three.
The Fighter won two acting awards and Black Swan one. Indeed, there weren't that many surprises in the film categories acting wise - Natalie Portman and Colin Firth seem assured Oscars now, while Melissa Leo and Christian Bale should probably also start practising Academy-worthy acceptance speeches.
It was a good night too for Annette Bening and Paul Giamatti, Steve Buscemi and the cast of Glee - Fox's musical comedy-drama picked up three Globes.
RIcky Gervais should also get some credit for managing to shock an audience prepped for offence with gags about Scientology and simulated oral sex. But did he succeed in his mission never to be invited back? Perhaps we will have to ask HFPA president Philip Berk...
1957 PST: And it's The Social Network!!!
1956 PST: Michael Douglas comes on stage to present the best film Globe and gets a standing ovation from the audience.
"There's got to be an easier way to get a standing ovation," jokes the actor, who was recently declared cancer-free.
1955 PST: Firth's win is the first Globe for The King's Speech, which went into the ceremony with a leading seven nominations. Will it get the final award of the evening or will it be The Social Network??
1952 PST: Yes, as expected Colin Firth wins his first Globe for his portrayal of stammering monarch George VI in the critically adored historical drama.
The 50-year-old Brit thanks his "exquisitely no-nonsense queen Helena (Bonham Carter), older brother Guy (Pearce), Geoffrey Rush and (director) Tom Hooper, "my two other sides of a surprisingly robust triangle of man-love."

Red Carpet Buzz: Emma Watson

The Harry Potter star had fans spellbound at the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in London’s Leicester Square
Who: Emma Watson

What: The Harry Potter star had fans spellbound wearing a revealing vintage minidress at the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in London’s Leicester Square today.
Wear: Vintage dress, Charlotte Olympia pumps, a poppy for Armistice Day
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and co. arrived in Leicester Square for the premiere of the penultimate Harry Potter movie, all looking dapper, of course, especially Emma Watson, who worked magic on the red carpet in a teeny vintage LBD (no joke—emphasis on the “little”). Pairing it with matching black pumps by Charlotte Olympia, her minidress featured a feathered skirt and a backless lace bodice. We’re loving the look (and her pixie hairstyle to top it off).
Do you think it’s too revealing or do you prefer some edge with your Hermione?

Shorty Capone brings urban street fashion to India

Shorty Capone Fashion the well known American fashion brand has now been launched in India to revolutionise the concept of urban street wear for India’s youngsters, the American way. The brand was started about five years ago in Chicago by a hip-hop producer of the same name.
Shahnawaz Sheikh, Managing Director and CEO of Shorty Capone Fashion is confident that whilst India has a long way to go to embrace urban street fashion, it has begun acknowledging it. The Shorty Capone line in India has been adapted to suit the sensibilities of the local population by toning down the outré element and infusing a more elegant European style. Sheikh identified the need gap, as there were no affordable American urban street wear brands in India to cater to teens and youth.

Six months into India, the sailing was far from smooth initially. “It was difficult. I wouldn’t say it was an easy journey for us. But retailers did understand the product side. Though they said the product was flashy, we convinced them of the product.  We are satisfied with our journey in India”, Sheikh says. And consumer response has been rather promising. “On the consumer side we had a response of 100 per cent as in the percentage of people who saw the brand and loved it. In terms of sales our plans are going store-wise. But in terms of opinion we have had 100 per cent acceptance. Everybody liked something about it, which is exactly what we want,” Sheikh adds.
Armed with this response, Shorty Capone is all set to launch itself nationwide by 2011 in EBO format. Three EBOs are expected to go live by March 2011 and five more to follow by December 2011. The cities where they will open are Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Hyderabad with a typical store covering 1,000 to 1,300 sq. ft. area. Additionally, franchising to penetrate Tier II towns is being considered as a part of their nationwide presence in 2011. By the first quarter of 2011, Shorty Capone products will be made available in around 20 large format stores around the country. Currently, Globus Stores retails its footwear line only.
Shorty Capone’s manufacturing is truly international. Based out of five countries -- China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Turkey and Indonesia -- every product is made in a specific country. The denim garments are from Turkey as Italian fabrics are imported into Turkey and assembled there.  Sheikh says “We want to keep the feel of the brand intact and this is what’s happening now but eventually we will look at India too. I believe India makes good T-shirts. With denim since we use Italian fabrics, it doesn’t suit geographical locations because it’s easier for us to import fabrics into Turkey rather than shifting it to India and shipping back to Europe. We use only Italian fabrics for denim and we want to keep it that way.” However, these factories are not owned by the company and are all outsourced with stringent quality specifications and the Shorty Capone quality team monitoring.

Shimmer and Shine like Sonakshi

Bollywood’s latest it girl, Sonakshi Sinha is literally all over the town. From debuting with none other than Salman Khan to walking the ramps for big designers and making TV appearances, the lady is clearly on a roll. Known for her beautiful, long tresses and her subtle smoky peepers, she clearly knows her make-up well. Here’s how to get understated dramatic eyes, dewy cheeks and a pretty pout, Sonakshi style.

Start with a light base, blending a few drops of foundation (Estee Lauder Nutritious Vita-Mineral Makeup, Rs. 1500) with your regular moisturiser for a natural finish. Use a creamy concealer to cover any dark circles and even out the eye area (Bobbi Brown Cream Concealer, Rs. 950). Subtle kohl-rimmed eyes is ‘the’ look that Sonakshi sports here, so sweep a natural eye shadow across the eye lids and keep it simple. With a precision eye liner (Christian Dior Intense Liquid Eyeliner, Rs. 1400) draw a line close to your upper lash line. Using the precision tip of the liner extend the eye liner downwards from the inner corner of your eyes (as shown). A single coat of intense black mascara (Dior Show Extase, Rs 1240 Or Lancôme Definicils Precious Cells Mascara, Rs. 1280) adds just the right amount of drama. Use a creamy kohl pencil (Lancôme Le Crayon Khol in Noir, Rs. 1085) and line your waterlines.
To achieve a rosy, luminous complexion Vogue recommends using a blush and a lipstick in the shades of peach and pink. Vogue recommends Guerlain Blush Éclat in Cherry Blossom (Rs. 2170) and YSL Rouge Volupté in in Fetish Pink (Rs. 1500).
